The Model BFF fiberglass strainer is the workhorse of industrial FRP strainers. It is recommended for a wide range of moderate to aggressive corrosion environments in FRP and other plastic piping systems for under 180F service. It is also available in a high temperature BFF-HT version for up to 200F service, and with an abrasion barrier BFF-ABR version for erosive slurries. All versions are rated to 150psi, and have optional fire retardant resins.
All BFF strainers feature a 5 part construction, starting with two chemical barriers of 10 mil thick Nexus veil, 90% resin to 10% reinforcement. An anti-wicking barrier of 100mil chopped strand glass, 75% resin to 25% reinforcement. A structural layer filament wound continuous roving, wind angle 55 deg, with 30% resin to 70% reinforcement. And finally an exterior protection of 10 mil thick polyester resign gel coating. This construction represents the best in chemical and impact resistance.
Standard baskets are manufactured of heavy gauge PVDF with 1/4" or 1/8" perforations. Stainless, titanium, monel, or hastalloy baskets are also available. Mesh liners are available of PP, PVDF, ETFE, Polyester as well as metallic screens.
- The standard BFF has an integral corrosion resistant liner, and Derakane 411/Hetron 922 premium resins in the liner and UV protected structure. Strainers are fabricated with Derakane 411 or Hetron 922 premium resins. They are suitable for many caustics, acids, brines, petroleum products, and many other services. The temperature limit is 180F.
- The BFF-HT has an elevated temperature rating of 200F, with Derakane 470/Hetron 970 premium resins. They are recommended for hot concentrated HCl (hydrochloric) acid and has been used extensively in the mineral process industry.
- The BFF-ABR has an enhanced resistance to erosive slurries, and outperform rubber lined steel and alloy piping in limestone, gypsum, lime, and many other fine particle slurries. Also used in Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) projects. Derakane 411/Hetron 922, or Derakane 470/Hetron 970 resins are used, and have a 110 mil abrasion/corrosion inner barrier in a formulated abrasion resistant resin matrix. The temperature limit is 180F.
